Importing bank statement and payment method

Problem reported by Peter Saxton 9 years ago

When I import a bank statement I have to set ONE payment method. This is illogical.

Hi Peter,

The payment method doesn't really make any difference. It will still allow you to explain all the items correctly if it is left blank.

Chris

Chris Thanks for that. Given that this is importing bank statements and there are usually several transactions at least and it doesn't matter anyway it would seem better to not even have the question.

I'll certainly pass that on, Peter.

Sorry Peter, but I disagree somewhat.

Many of my clients want to have something in that field, and most of my clients' transactions are 'bank transfer' or some such. If they have the whole lot done with 'bank transfer' on import, then they only need to change a few of the items as they explain the transactions, rather than have to remember to change every single one of them.

As Chris says, it is not a required field, and you can perfectly well explain all of your transactions without even touching the field so the fact that it is there is no bother if you don't need it, and a time saver most of the time if you do.

Michael I take the point that giving a description to a lot and then changing a few makes sense. I've never been a fan of giving that information anyway as it doesn't really add anything useful. I'm quite happy to ignore the option.

Thanks Peter.

Actually to round this out, it might be nice to have the payment method as one of the upload fields so it could be completely filled in as part of the import process to eliminate even the occasional amendment .

However, none of my clients have asked for this and I don't use it myself, and for that reason haven't suggested it as an enhancement, but feel free if you think it merits it!

Good idea. As long as it doesn't lead to problems when importing from different bank's statements!
