Unable to link ClearBooks to HMRC for MTD

I am experiencing problems link ClearBooks to HMRC for my MTD.

I have tried numerous times and keep getting the following message...

Clear Books cannot access your MTD for Income Tax information

Please check that you are signed up to MTD for Income Tax with HMRC.

Sign up to MTD for Income Tax

Please also check that the Government Gateway ID used to authorise Clear Books has access to the NI number entered.

You may need to reauthorise Clear Books with the correct Government Gateway ID.

I have tried to deauthorise and authorise several times. I have removed the permission from HMRC and re-tried several times but keep getting the same message.

Any advice on how to fix this?

Hi Gordon,

There are 3 reasons for why HMRC may not make your MTD Tax Information available:

  1. Wrong NI number - please double check your NI number is correct.
  2. Not registered for MTD - you can check this by attempting to sign up again with HMRC.
  3. Wrong HMRC account linked - you must ensure you use the same HMRC account you used to sign up to authorise.

Hi Gordon,

Unfortunately, in this case, you will need to contact HMRC as they are not making your tax information available. I have also removed one of your screenshots to avoid sharing sensitive information on a public post.

I have checked all of these and the information is correct. My government gateway shows that Clearbooks is authorised. I only have one HMRC account and my NI number is correct.

Hi Gordon,

In the meantime, when logged in, can you click the ? icon at the top right > Click Send Us a Message and include screenshots of:

  1. Gov gateway ID, NI number in HMRC web page after logging in with that ID,
  2. The MTD for Income tax income sources in the HMRC web page after logging in with that ID,
  3. The authorisation process page by page showing the gov gateway ID and NI number entered.
