How to handle a purchase that was made partly via gift voucher / credit on account

Problem reported by Paul Masri-Stone 19 hours ago

I recently made an Amazon purchase of several items, one of which was a business expense. From https://secure.clearbooks.co.uk/community/problems/28537/how-to-split-a-bank-transaction-between-a-bill-and-personal I know how to split this out. However, because a prior personal refund left a credit on the Amazon account, the actual amount taken in the bank transaction was small (smaller than the business expense).

My bank transactions are automatically imported via the bank feed.

How do I handle this in Clear Books?

Hi Paul,

In this case, you should head to Dashboard > Bank accounts > Add account > Select Owner's Funds account. Once added, you must then head to Dashboard > Expenses > Create bill > Input the full amount of the goods.

Then, once the bill has been created, you can allocate the bank transaction to this bill. The bill will then have an outstanding amount of the personal credit. You must then click into the bill, scroll down to the bottom and fill in the record payment form, selecting the Owner's Funds account as the bank account paid from.
