New employee

Question asked by Marie Hughes 9 years ago

Hi, General query, not Clearbooks query!! Does anyone know how I go about telling HMRC the pay to date etc? I have a new employee, but no P45. On HMRC website, it says no P45 needed any longer! Last month (as a new employee for us ) they paid no tax, but I know they should have done! Sorry, I'm new to payroll Shirley

Hi Shirley

Did you tick the W1/M1 box when setting up the new employee? That's what I would've done.

Either way, HMRC will send you through a new tax code in due course so I wouldn't worry about it too much, they'll already know the YTD pay via the RTI submissions from the last employer.

So HMRC do NOT need the paper P45?

No, all starters/leavers are dealt with via RTI now.
