Mistake transferring money

Question asked by Bridget Ruffell 10 years ago

I was trying to transfer money from one bank account to a new savings account I had set up. I followed the instructions to do this (via transfer) but this involved me having to allocate the tansfer to an account. As none of them seemed right I created one called savings which it accepted! My monthly profit and loss account is now showing the amount as a credit in October - whereas it was purely a transfer of money between accounts. Any ideas how to put this right?

You just need to find the original transaction, delete it then start again.

If you go into the account you've done the transfer from you should be able to find it easily enough. Click on the amount then hit delete. If you get a warning msg saying it's already been reconciled just follow it through to unreconcile it then press delete again.

Thanks Kevin. What should I put in the account box though? It wouldn't let me not include this?

Thanks Kevin - I'd done it all through the Money tab rather than the transfer tab - thought the blue meant I was on the right thing, hence the problem. All sorted

It happens a lot, even though it's right there in front of you the tab isn't all that obvious until you've used it a couple of times.
