Payroll Employment Allowance

Question asked by Helen Stephens 9 years ago

Hi,

I am in the process of uploading my EPS for April payroll as this includes SMP, and notice that the employment allowance has not been included within this submission for the new payroll tax year. Will this roll over on a certain date, and will this be changed to £3,000 rather than currently shown as £2,000?

Many thanks in advance of your response.

Helen

Hi Helen,

As Kevin has helpfully explained, the fact that the Employment Allowance is being shown as £2000 rather than £3000 is a small bug with the display. It is working correctly in the backend and will claim £3000.

If you are not seeing the confirmation that the claim is included on your EPS which Kevin demonstrated in his screenshots, please feel free to raise a support ticket with us (email contact support), specifying which of your accounts you are submitting for and we will be happy to check and confirm that you have it set up correctly.

I hope this helps.

All the best.

Hi Helen

Are you saying this piece of text isn't showing on the EPS?

If so, have you ticket this box in Employer > Details?

Finally, don't worry if you see £2000 being quoted anywhere within Clear Books, they just haven't got round to amending the text itself yet [but £3k will definitely be claimed].

Thank you for your responses. My software does show the line entry 'You are confirming to the HMRC...) however, I thought it may show on the calculation on the EPS along with the SMP recovery. But if this happens in the backend and claims the £3,000 that is fine.

Many thanks Helen

Hi Helen

Funnily enough, the EA calculations aren't shown anywhere within the payroll module itself. Once you've imported the bills into the bookkeeping the one payable to HMRC will have the employers NI deducted from it.

As for the SMP recovery, I actually haven't done any through Clear Books as yet but I very much doubt the software will go beyond you filing the EPS. You'll therefore need to make a manual adjustment within the bookkeeping.

Thanks Kevin, I prepare a journal for the SMP adjustments within our bookkeeping so will do the same for the employment allowance. Many thanks for your help. Helen

Are you using Clear Books for the bookkeeping? If so, there's no need to journal anything.

Re the SMP reclaim - a journal probably wouldn't work either. The bill to HMRC will be created for the full amount [less EA] so you'd just need to edit the bill [I think, having a blank moment...]

Sorry, looks like I didn't finish my first line. It should've read "If so, there's no need to journal anything as when you import the bills from the payroll module over into the bookkeeping it will automatically apply the EA allowance"

I'm quite new to Clearbooks so haven't ventured into using the importing function - I know I'm probably making more work for myself but I like to know where the figures are going hence why I journal once I've entered the payments to the employees.

Is there an online tutorial for payroll through Clearbooks?- I've previously used SAGE so am familiar with payroll.

Many thanks Helen

Very different from Sage indeed - not a bad thing.

In a nutshell everything in Clear Books revolves around invoices and bills. In CB employees are classed as suppliers so, when in the payroll dod, if you click the 'import into accounts' button it will create bills in the bookkeeping in the name of the employee[s]. You'd then pay off these bills like you normally would [either manually or via a bank import].

I'm not aware of any vids but this might help: https://www.clearbooks.co.uk/support/guides/category/payroll-2/

Alternatively, feel free to keep posting here and i'll pick it up.

PS Actually looks like that link I just provided is pretty rubbish, sorry!

Great thanks for your help Kevin. I'll get back to you if I have any further questions.

Many thanks Helen
