Recurring Invoices

Question asked by Cathy Owens 8 years ago

Still having an issue with recurring invoices. I have multiple recurring invoices set up with an invoice date at the end of the month, but I want to be able to amend and manage these before the end of the month, otherwise I have to do it all on the first day of the next month. How can I create them as draft invoices without having to change the invoice dates on each one?

I think we ran through this before didn't we?

If you want to be able to amend/manage a recurring invoice you'd have to set the recurrence date to the date you want to be able to start amending/managing them from - there's literally no other way around it.

So if you want invoices to be dated 31st of the month but want to be able to amend them from say the 25th onwards you'd have to set the recurrence as the 25th, do whatever amendment you need whilst at the same time then changing the date back to 31st.

Yes - which rather reduces the value of recurring invoices, as I could simply do this by copying invoices instead of creating recurring ones. It won't save me any time. I'll log it as an un-user friendly issue that could do with an option to fix.

Hi Cathy - as I work with CB over this sort of stuff, I'd be interested to know how you'd like it to work as I've not come across any other system that enables you to edit a recurring invoice before it's created and certainly, with my clients, the draft creation is the solution, a few days before the end of the month if that's when you want to to the editing.

In cases where the invoice must be dated the last day of the month, I and my clients, crate it as draft on the last day then edit & send out the first few days of the next month, still dated the end of the month. With some suppliers I buy from I get the month end invoice days or even weeks in advance.

Anyway, as I say, I'd be interested to know how you'd like this to work.

Thanks. I always use the last day of the month as the invoice date for clients, and event though I have set up a significant number as recurring invoices, I still need to edit and add to quite a few of them. I would like to do this during the month, to draft invoices, but those drafts are not being created until the 31st. So I have to wait until the 31st to make any changes.

It reduces the flexibility of time, as I then need to spend a day of time at the start of next month making all the changes.

I can fix it so that that the drafts are created mid month by changing the invoice date. But if I have to edit every single one in this way, then I might as well copy every one of last months invoices individually and change the invoice date. So the benefits of creating recurring invoices is significantly reduced.

I'd like to create recurring templates, but then can toggl these to appear as drafts during the month, so they can be amended. I don't want to have to wait to do all that editing and changing on the 1st of the following month. It means I never get it done in time and my invoices don't go out for a week or so.
