Deleting imported transactions

Question asked by Jane Grimshaw 8 years ago

Hi, I'm new to Clear books and having an issue when importing bank statements. I just imported a statement with one entry on it for 1,000 rupees. Unfortunately it has imported well over 600 entries of the said 1,000 rupees. How can I get rid of them without sitting deleting every single line. I've had this problem a couple of times where its added 2 or 3 entries with no details just the amount and date but this is a nightmare. I'm quite happy to delete the whole bank account and all the entries and start again but can't figure out how.

Hi Jane,

You can delete bulk transactions on an imported statement by using the Narrow results option. With this feature you select a start and end date and the system will delete any unexplained transactions outside of this date range.

The issue itself sounds as if the statement could have a blank row on it - does the statement come directly from your bank or is it edited in any way?

Hi thanks for that. I edited it but I just overtyped the previous one that had 6 entries on with the one for 1,000 rupees and the date and description so no idea how I ended up with 677 entries of 1,000 rupees. I did the narrow options things as you suggested but it didn't make any difference. Is it because there is only one entry date for all the transactions?

Apologies - I've managed to delete the transactions following your advice - thank you!

Oh I see - it might be best just to create a new sheet completely instead of overtyping.

As for the narrowing - yes I think it is because there is only one date for all the transactions. As long as all the appropriate transactions are explained just select the day before as both the start and end date and it should work.
