VAT and invoice from Clearbooks

Question asked by Theo Williams 8 years ago

Hi, I am just setting up to complete my first VAT return for HMRC, including reclaiming VAT on my setup purchases.

  1. Have I paid VAT on my Clearbooks subscription?
  2. Where do I find the invoice for the subscription? (is it somewhere within my account online?)
  3. If I have paid VAT, can I reclaim it - and how best to code it? (subscriptions, or Fixtures and Fittings like my other business software?)

Hi Theo,

Your Clear Books subscription does include VAT. A copy of this invoice can be located by hovering over the 'building looking' icon in the top right hand corner of the page and selecting the subscription option. In the following page, select 'payment settings' followed by 'view billing history'.

When coding the bill, you'll need to select an expense account so that it shows up on your profit and loss report. Subscriptions would therefore be fine. Do not use fixtures and fittings account code as this relates to fixed assets that your business might own.
