Posting payroll journal

Question asked by Shukhrat Mirakhmedov 8 years ago

hi

I'm trying to import journal (payroll) as follows:

13/01/2017 4 weekly staff payroll (wages) to 13/01/17 4001001 8960.09 13/01/2017 4 weekly directors payroll (salaries) to 13/01/17 4001006 2500
13/01/2017 4 weekly staff payroll (er NI) to 13/01/17 4001001 411.31
13/01/2017 4 weekly directors payroll (er NI) to 13/01/17 4001006 345 13/01/2017 4 weekly staff payroll (NI/PAYE) to 13/01/17 8506001 1592.55 13/01/2017 4 weekly staff payroll (net wages) to 13/01/17 8506002 10623.85

but looks like I can't. I need to keep track of salaries to directors and associated NI in order to see potential savings on erNIs that company can save by managing salaries/dividends. Is there a workaround without complicating too much? I do not want to post journals manually every month so seeing if I can use import tool. I thought about recurring journals but they require one description for the whole journal rather than different descriptions for each line.

Thanks Shukhrat

Oh I see - as journals only allow you to add a description for the whole journal the import tool will only allow you to have the same description for each line on the spreadsheet. So it might be best to combine all descriptions together and apply this to each row on the spreadsheet.

Hi Shukhrat,

I take it you are using Payroll - currently, this will only allow you to import into accounts as bills rather than journals. You would need to create journals manually if you don't plan to use this feature.

hi John,

Thanks for prompt reply. I use Accounting. Is it still the case? If it is it doesn't make sense to restrict descriptions to check if journal balances, shouldn't it be checking if total CR and DR balance rather than worrying about descriptions, which should be left for use to decide?

regards, Shukhrat

As long as the Dr and Cr balance then the journal should be accepted (you will also need a description, accounting date and account code for each line of the journal) - are you getting an error message when you create them?

I'm importing csv file to journal payroll costs. I have 6 lines in total all of them have different descriptions, all of them have dates, account codes, and amounts as in the attached picture. But I get error.
