Outside the Scope

Question asked by Michelle Underwood 6 years ago

Is there a way of coding an invoice "to outside the scope of VAT" but still have the sale appear in our Box 6 figures? And like wise coding an "outside of the scope" purchase and get it to appear in Box 7? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Michelle,

I have checked with our support accountant and my previous answer is how you would deal with this in Clear Books. If you do it that way, it will show in box 6. Clear Books may do some things differently to how your accountant would expect, however, it is still HMRC rule compliant.

Hi Michelle,

Are you trying to put a 0% VAT rate to the purchase invoice?

If so, you can set the VAT rate to '0%' and the VAT treatment as 'Goods or Services...', and this will put it in boxes 6 and 7.

Our accountant has advised that the sales invoice I am trying to process is Outside the scope of VAT but as per the guidlines from HMRC should still appear in box 6 as it will make up the total of our sales. The invoice in question is for a service carried out in the USA. I can't see how I can satisfy our accountant and have it still show on the VAT return. Many thanks
