email verification

Question asked by Luan Rowley 6 years ago

How do I turn off emails automatically going out to customers asking them to verify their email address every time I add details to my contacts?

Sorry Aran was wrong about this, verification emails are not sent automatically - they are optional. If you choose to send a verification email, an email asking the customer to click on a link, to confirm they can receive emails from Clear Books, will be sent.

I think a lot of CB users were clicking on the yellow exclamation mark beside customers - which would send one of these verification emails straight away, so we have redesigned this to make it more clear.

Hi Luan,

Unfortunately, they cannot be switched off. They are part of our data protection procedure to make sure that all sensitive information regarding contacts is correct and verified by the contact.

Hi again Aran

I'm confused. I am the data controller and so if I chose to enter a 3rd party's data in CB it's my responsibility to make sure it's correct and that I have their permission to use it. This seems to accord with CB's privacy policy:

"Through Your use of the Service Clear Books may also collect information about someone else from You.

If You provide Clear Books with personal information about someone else You must ensure that You are authorised to disclose that information to Clear Books and without Clear Books taking further steps required by applicable data protection or privacy laws. Clear Books may collect, use and disclose such information for the purposes described this Policy.

This means that You must take reasonable steps to ensure the individual concerned is aware of and/or consents to the various matters detailed in this Policy, including the fact that their personal information is being collected, the purposes for which that information is being collected, the intended recipients of that information, the individual’s right to obtain access to that personal information, Clear Books’ identity and how to contact Clear Books."

It does not say that you take responsibility for verifying my customers' details and you should not make it mandatory to check out that I am using someone's data correctly.

You mention "contacts" so if I enter new supplier with his/her email address, why does it not try to verify it?
