Deleting bank account

Question asked by Lisa Coley 4 years ago

Hi, I'm just tying up our 2019/20 accounts and I've realised that one of our Euro accounts was set up with the incorrect opening balance and also a heap of the transactions have been duplicated. I can't work out how to delete single line items and I think it would be quicker to delete the account entirely and then start it again.

It's a deposit account so there are only 10 or so transactions per month, so it's not a huge amount of work, but it's giving me a complete headache at the moment.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I'm afraid there is no way to delete an entire account and all the transactions it contains. It also isn't possible to bulk delete transactions. Unfortunately, the only way would be to delete the items line by line. I do understand this is somewhat tedious and I do apologise for that.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Please can you tell me how to delete line items? Normally if i have unreconciled items in an imported statement, that statement will appear below the list of bank accounts, in the Imported Statements Need Explaining list. However, despite me unreconciling EVERY transaction within the account (by clicking on the account name in the list at the top of the Bank Accounts page, and doing it using the check box to the left of each item and then clicking Unreconcile), the statement is not appearing in that list.

Hi Lisa,

You should be able to find them under Money > Bank Accounts. You can then click on the value of the line and then you will be presented with a delete button.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Thanks Mohamed. It's taken a while but I've found what you mean and have deleted all the transactions now.

By the way, I have also noticed that my opening balance for the year is incorrect on this particular bank account. How do I go in and change it?

We actually started this new account specifically for April 2019 onwards, so we have no other bank statements previous to 1st April 2019

Thanks Lisa
