MTD for income tax. Could not find any HMRC income sources for your NI number.

Question asked by Ronald Barnatt 6 months ago

Dear Sir

I have set up my Clear Books MTD account for income tax for income received from property rental and have linked it to the HMRC. I have registered MTD with HMRC and they have emailed me notification that my set up is complete referencing my National Insurance number. See below:

However Clear Books has alerted me that "We couldn't find any HMRC income sources for your national insurance number." Please see the screen shot below.

We attempted to set up my wifes account also and she received the same alert in section 5 of the set up.

Would anyone please advise as this does not appear to be an HMRC issue.

Kind regards Ron Barnatt

Hi Ron,

It appears you have registered as a Sole Trader, in this case, if you hover over your business name at the top right, click Add New Business and select the Landlord account type.

Thank you Tommy.

Can you advise how to remove the old business name that was set up incorrectly as a sole trader?

Kind regards Ron.

Hi Ron,

No problem, once you're in the old account, you must head to the Building icon (top right) > Account > Close account.
