We couldn't find any HMRC income sources for your national insurance number. Please check that it's correct, and that you have signed up for MTD for Income Tax. Contact HMRC if the issue persists

Question asked by john holsman 5 months ago

Hi I have just signed up for MTD early to test how it works. Created an HMRC Online account, followed the first 4 steps but on the 5 it says the following

We couldn't find any HMRC income sources for your national insurance number. Please check that it's correct, and that you have signed up for MTD for Income Tax. Contact HMRC if the issue persists

Not sure if this is because I am new and have used an accountant to submit my tax returns

Hi John,

Can I confirm if you're a sole trader or landlord?

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

I am a sole trader

John

Hi John,

In this case, you will need to contact HMRC to ensure you are signed up to MTD for the current tax year and that you have a sole trade/self employment income source set up with HMRC.

Tommy

Thanks Tommy, I will contact them. I realise that I have not had the confirmation email arrive for HMRC that I am successfully signed in, so something has gone wrong.
