Keeping properties separate

Question asked by Kate Horey 2 months ago

Hi, how do I record expenses and income to different properties in the free version so that I can see them as separate if needed and understand which property they came under please?

I've looked through the guides and can't find anything that helps except upgrading to the large platform with projects as an option (which costs as much as an accountant filing year end).

I've been changing the from/to field to the property name but this feels off as it records the property as a supplier. I just started so I'd like a cleaner way to do this before I tangle everything up and quit!

Hi Kate,

In this case, you could input the property name in the description or reference field when recording income and expenses.

I need the description to cover what the payment actually was. And adding words to it each time is much more arduous than the do down for the from or to section.

Is there any problem with doing it the way I am? By using the property name as the from/to name? Will it cause future problems?

Hi Kate,

No, you can input the property name in the From/ To dropdown if you'd like that to be the identifier. Usually, you would select the relevant customer/ supplier but this is for your own reference.

Thank you.

If i do it this way, and log it as distent things like rental income... then how would I filter them for different properties, when I'm looking at rental income for example please? Could I easily get a total of rental income under a specific house address/ supplier please?

Ps apologies: i can completely see from the terminology (like supplier) and the set up, that this platform is designed entirely for businesses not landlords but I'm trying to make it suit my purposes as best I can and do appreciate your help

*distinct (not distant)

Hi Kate,

No problem, and yes, you can do so by heading to Dashboard > Reports > Transactions > Filter by the account code Rental Income and the customer (property in this case).

Also, we are planning to release a feature that will allow for an easier and more robust separation between properties which will be available before April 2026.

Tommy

Amazing thank you!
