If I sign up for Clear Books now for MTD ready for starting April 2026, will I have to start doing quarterly returns for the rest of 25/26?

Hi James,

No, you can sign up to Clear Books and use the current tax year to keep digital records and get used to the software without any obligation to submit data to HMRC. If you choose to, you can volunteer to join the MTD for Income Tax pilot for the 2025/26 year. This would require you to submit quarterly updates for the current year, but this is entirely optional.
