Bank feed and Balance do not match

Question asked by Isobel Nicholls 2 days ago

I'm fairly new to Clearbooks and it operated quite differently to my last accounting software. My bank balance is correct in the dashboard but my Clearbooks balance does not match, which I believe it should. I have reconciled which all seems to be fine but still the imbalance. I have no idea where to start looking, any suggestions please?

Hi Isobel,

In this case, you must head to Settings > Opening balances > Click on the bank balance > Then, you must double check the opening balance is correct. It looks as though you have started inputting transactions from 14/01/26, and therefore, you should input the opening balance of this date.

Thanks Tonny I checked the opening balance and it is correct

Hi Isobel,

In this case, you must head to Dashboard > Click on the bank balance that is incorrect > Then change the From date to 14/01/26. You will then need to compare this to your actual bank statements to find any duplicates or omissions. For any duplicates or any entries that shouldn't be there, you must click the amount, then click Delete.

I have encountered the same issue with the bank feeds from Amex. It seems to miss out transactions. Not sure if it is a glitch but it seems to miss out transactions on the 25th of each month. I have to manually go through all my statements and compare them to the bank feed transactions. A total of 8 transactions were omitted. I manually added them back in but I now check daily to ensure the actual transactions match the bank feed.

Hi Gordon,

In this case, once logged in, are you able to click the ? at the top right, then click Send Us a Message including an example missing transactions please? I can then escalate this with our bank feed provider to investigate.

Thanks,

Tommy

Hi Tommy, I've already raised this issue with you, and you have already replied....

Your response was "this is a limitation on Amex's side where they only return transactions from the currently open credit card statement. There would always be a window for missed transactions between Plaid's last update on the day before closing, and the next update on the day after closing.

In this case, the solution would be to either manually import csv statements for Amex, or you will have to recreate the statement for the missing transactions each month."

I manually enter transactions that have been missed.

Thanks
