When I import my bank data I always have to select a payment method (drop down box). It is unclear to me what this does, why it is needed and why it does not remember what I selected last time.
Any ideas?

Every time you explain a transaction (or add a payment) you need to select a payment method
When importing a statement you are given the option to select a default payment method for each of the transactions on the statement, so this basically fills out the payment method drop down list (shown above) automatically.
Just remember you don't have to select a default payment method at all when importing the statement.
