Salutation Fields for E-mail Templates

It would be nice to have a ‘Salutation’ field for the customer, so that automated emails don’t look so ‘automatic’! At present (normally) I get, for example:
"Dear John Smith,"
Whereas if there was a salutation field I could set as just ‘Brendon’ then I could have the more natural:
"Dear Brendon,"
