screwed up a customer import

Problem reported by Colin Hardie 9 years ago

Hi

I downloaded a CSV of all of my customers and made amendments to a number of records (mainly the contact_name field that had a lot of entries in with salutation/firstname/surname and then a few records with different email addresses.)

I then use the import tool, thinking it would merge it with existing records, not just create new ones. It's create a whole pile of new records and there seems to be no quick way of deleting these. Can you help please?

Fair point Paul. I won't attempt it at 7am the next time either..

A Horse/Bolted/After comment - from time to time we all learn that it is wise to create a restore point (backup) before doing any significant import. It's not just that our assumptions may not reflect how the system works, it can just be a glitch during the import process that results in hundreds of redundant entries.

Hi Colin, I have responded to your query via email. Please have a look and let me know how you wish to proceed.

Drop support a ticket but I doubt they'll be able to do much now. In CB's defence I wouldn't expect them to automatically know to merge client data like you needed (unless there was specifically an option asking if you wanted to which there isn't).

If you use the 'merge contacts' options I reckon you'd get it done inside half an hour. A waste of course but these things do happen.

All of them! Nearly 270 records. I'd assumed there might have been a bit of intelligence behind the import process.

Hi Colin

No quick way at all i'm afraid as far as I know. You're either looking at a 1 by 1 delete or a 1 by 1 merge.

How many are we talking?
