Bank account Description column truncation

Problem reported by Simon Jackson 9 years ago

The Description column on the Bank Account Transactions page seems to be truncated after a comma in the description text:

Clearly nothing major; just thought I'd mention it having noticed it.

Hi Simon

Thanks for raising the issue.

The bank account description field is limited to 30 characters and would truncate beyond that. It is not the comma which is truncating it but the restriction on the number of characters.

For a money and money out transactions we hope the length of the field would be adequate to give basic information on the transaction.

Hi Latha,

Thanks for getting back to me. It seems that the underlying description field isn't restricted to 30 characters though:

As this is just a display issue, can it not be adjusted to show the whole field (rather than truncate)? Or alternatively, maybe suffix the truncated description with an ellipsis and enable mouse-over to show the whole description, as input by the user?

If the user had been able to enter longer than 30 characters, and the system has stored it, it's reasonable to expect the system to then display it too, I think.

Hi Simon

I can see your point of view. The display shows it in full when you click on the amount while on the bank transaction page shows only the 30 characters.

I will feed your suggestion as an improvement to our development team and they can then take it forward.

Many thanks for your suggestion.

Best regards

Latha
