On the dashboard I have a widget that is meant to show the VAT currently owed. Instead it shows what looks like the total amount of VAT paid so far. How do I set this up so that it shows how much VAT is owed in the current quarter?

The widget is designed to display the transactions in the VAT control account. A quarterly balance can be found below the cumulative figure, but there is no way to configure this widget to only display the quarterly balance.
If you did just want to see the to date quarter figures, this can be done by heading through the widget and designating the desired from and to dates.

Phew this is good to read, I have the same problem and thought I'd done something wrong with my VAT. Thanks for the explanation.
it's a good read, but an even better read would be "yes, you can view your VAT owed for the quarter only on the dashboard by...."
