MTD for VAT - error

After successfully setting up and using Clearbooks for our monthly MTD VAT submissions, we now have the following error when starting to prepare our July VAT return. We have changed nothing & I have checked the VAT number.

Anything similar happened elsewhere or should I just pencil in an hour or 2 to call HMRC !?!

MTD for VAT: Unknown error

Your VAT information could not be retrieved from HMRC, please check if your VAT number is correct here. If your VAT number is correct and the issue persists, Please contact HMRC.

Thanks John - just rechecked (I had the errors early this morning and yesterday) and now all seems OK - no error messages! Thanks for saving me a long & painful call to HMRC!

Hi Paul,

There was some scheduled maintenance from HMRC over the weekend and ending (supposed to) yesterday at 4. There were still issues after this though and they updated their status to the following:

Submitting Making Tax Digital for VAT returns

We are aware that some customers are experiencing an issue with submitting their Making Tax Digital for VAT returns.

We are working to fix this as soon as possible and will provide an update once it has been resolved.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Since 9AM today, we have started to see successful submissions so they may have resolved this problem.
