How to split a bank transaction between a bill and personal

Problem reported by Paul Masri-Stone 1 month ago

I asked this question on 30 Apr via support ticket 252019. I got an answer but it didn't work and I replied on 4 Jun providing a video of what actually happens. I haven't had a follow-up. I noticed a new ticket appeared 254575 with the same subject line but it was never responded to.

I still have this problem and I also have a new identical transaction that needs dealing with.

As far as I can see, as soon as the bill is associated with the transaction there's no pathway to then explain the remainder as a personal transaction.

Hi Paul,

Just a quick update. We have now removed the Save as Unallocated Receipt/ Payment button on the basic plans to avoid confusion.

We really appreciate your feedback and we hope this helps!

Hi Paul,

No problem and yes, those steps are correct.

When you mark a transaction as personal, the system records it to the contact Personal Transactions and the personal transactions account code. The Drawings and Personal Transactions account codes ultimately do the same thing.

Hi Paul,

I'm terribly sorry, it looks like the new ticket had slipped through the cracks.

When splitting the transaction, for the personal element, you must select the Drawings account code and click Add Payment.

For the unallocated payment option, I can see there is a task for our Product team to review this option.

lol high-five emoji becomes question mark

Thanks Tommy.

To double-check the steps I did:

  1. Click on the bank transaction in the 'Explain' screen.
  2. Stay on the 'Transaction' tab rather than 'Personal'.
  3. Under 'Allocate to unpaid bills', find the row with the (Amazon) bill I already imported and click 'Allocate'. This now shows a table with the amount allocated and the 'Unallocated balance'.
  4. The new step: Under 'Record new payment' select Account code: Drawings. This wouldn't save as I needed to select the "Paid to". Here I made an assumption and selected "Personal transactions". Click 'Add payment'.
  5. Now the unallocated balance is zero, so I click 'Save'.

If I've done that right, am I right in thinking that when I mark a transaction as 'Personal', under the hood it's recording a payment to 'Personal transactions' using account code 'Drawings' too?
