Problem submitting quarterly to HMRC

Hi Dennis,

Unfortunately, this is a known bug in HMRC's systems that causes submissions to fail for some taxpayers after they change their period type.

HMRC say that they will fix these cases within a week of them happening, so you will need to wait a week then try again. If it's still not working after a week we can escalate this to HMRC.

Thank you Tommy. Not a problem, I shall give it another go in a weeks time. I just wanted to make sure my submission was early so I don't forget and get fined ;-)

So I'm assuming a lot of Clear Books users are experiencing the same problem I'm having?

And we do have a handful of users experiencing the same issue. Other software vendors are experiencing it too, as the issue is with HMRC services.

After 6 days I'm still receiving the following error message when I try to submit my quarterly to HMRC:

"This quarterly income and expenses update could not be submitted to HMRC.

Try again later or if the problem persists, please contact Clear Books support to resolve this issue."

Is there anything that can be done to resolve this?

Hi Den,

In this case, you will need to retry after a full week has passed. If the error persists, do let us know and we can re-escalate this with HMRC.

not a problem. I'll leave it for another couple of days in that case so it'll be over a week. Hopefully by that time I can successfully get the quarterly submitted ;-)

So I've left it for 8 days now and I just tried re-submitting my quarterly to HMRC. I'm still getting this error message:

"This quarterly income and expenses update could not be submitted to HMRC.

Try again later or if the problem persists, please contact Clear Books support to resolve this issue."

Is there anything I can do?

hope all is well. Any news from HMRC with regards to the situation bud? I just tried submitting the quarterly again and I got the same error message.

Also, I'm assuming if the system is still not working by the submission deadline I won't be fined or penalised? Thanks once again for your help ;-)

And unfortunately, we've not yet had any update from HMRC. And that is correct, if this is not resolved by the deadline, you should not be fined for late submission.

No problem and yes, unfortunately, these are HMRC issues experienced by all software vendors who support changing the period type from standard to calendar.
