Unused account codes show when editing a bill/invoice

I have lots of account codes that I don't currently use, so I untick the 'show in sales'/'show in purchases' boxes if I don't want them to show. This works fine when creating a new invoice or bill. However, if I am editing an existing invoice/bill, then all of the unwanted account codes show. This makes selecting the correct code much more difficult.
Surely an easy fix!
