HMRC

Question asked by Marie Hughes 10 years ago

Does anyone know why the amount owed to HMRC re August payroll (Clearbooks payroll and HMRC website) is different to the sum on Clearbooks accounting? If I look at payroll for August the sum owed is £3055.81, to HMRC. In accounting, HMRC as a creditor is owed £2916.31!! This has not happened before! Help.

Employers NI allowance? Payroll doesn't take it into account, Accounting does.

Call it a good learning curve!

I'd have thought the NIC is easily explainable by the employment allowance (it could well be the HMRC site that's wrong - don't for a minute think HMRC always get it right, quite the opposite) but the PAYE part is a bit baffling.

Hope it goes well with CB support, feel free to give me a nudge if there's anything else.

The bill differs in the PAYE sum, and both the NIC sums!! Aaaaargh, Clearbooks are phoning me back. Thanks for your help, I'm unsure how you ever get time to work, you're always helping Numpty's like me!!! :-)

Sorry, poor grammar there (wish there was an edit function!)

Ok so you're saying Clear Books payroll and HMRC match but the Accounting module if different. If you look at the bill that's been created in Accounting can you compare it to what's in Payroll to see where the difference lies?

Hi Thank you but there is NO discrepency before this month(Augusy payroll). HMRC as a creditor balance on Clearbooks ALWAYS equalled what HMRC calculate we owe. On payroll the 'Due to HMRC' equals what they say we owe, so so far so good.................................. THEN looking in Accounting, HMRC as a creditor are owed less, by over £100. Therefore I cannot reconcile my bank payment, as the creditor sum is less. I guess I'm going to need to phone Clearbooks. It just doesn't make sense. Thanks Though :-)

Hi Shirley

It's impossible for anybody on here to give you an answer without seeing both the HMRC and Clear Books account. You'd need to go back month by month and see where the discrepancy occurs. Once you've found that it should be fairly easy to see what needs rectifying.

This has not happened in 18months, so why mow? If I pay the sum requested by HMRC (which I will do, clearly) then it will not reconcile against the HMRC creditor balance in Clearbooks!!

If this is the case, then why has it always been that what I owe according to the 'HMRC website' is exactly what it says I owe in 'Clearbooks' to HMRC? This is the first time in two years that there has been this discrepancy!!

Hi Shirley,

I responded to your Support ticket. It may be best to discuss this there in case there is any sensitive information. Although, I see Kevin has been brilliant and hit the nail on the head :)

Thanks

Chris
