I would like to amend just one field - ideally 'Phone2' - on the customer list so that I can establish which customers are on my ledger and which customers are on my colleagues ledger without adding duplicates.
Is there a way to do this through the Import facility or do I have to go into each customer one-by-one and edit the contact that way?

In all honesty i'm not 100% clear what you want to do but if you've got existing customers within CB and wish to add to or edit their details you'll need to do it on a one-by-one basis i'm afraid.
Well, you could import the client again with the updated data then merge the old record into the new one but that's pretty long winded.

Yes, you have the idea of what I'm trying to achieve. I feared it would be the case I'd have to go into each customer one-by-one so I did make a start yesterday and I'm almost done now.
