Transaction report

Question asked by Ros Northmore 9 years ago

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it really annoying that a transaction report only shows the totals of the columns and not a net balance? See the example attached.

I'm sure it used to show it.

I suppose I'll have to use my calculator to work it out for now!!!

PS I still love you guys!

Hello Ros

Balance Sheet accounts show the opening and closing balance on the transaction report but not the Profit and Loss accounts. This has not changed recently.

One suggestion is to open the Profit and Loss account in a separate tab for the same period you are looking for 01/04/2015 to 31/08/2015 and this will produce the monthly P&L with the total column. If you hover your cursor over the total column it will show you the balance with pounds and pence. You would not then need a calculator. Screen shot below.

I will refer your suggestion to the development team and see if there is a possibility to add this feature. It would be a good addition, I agree.

Thanks Latha. I guess I'll have to do something like that or keep looking at the trial balance, but it would seem sensible to me for this to be just at the bottom of the screen for all transactions reports, both P&L and Balance sheet.

By the way, while the development team are doing that, please can they add a cumulative running balance down the side of the report as this would be really, really helpful too.

And also, perhaps an extra column which shows the other references for postings (INV/REC/PUR/PAY) not just the transaction ID number as this would be more use as it would mean that everything is visible in one screen.

(I have mentioned this before!)

In VT you can pull off a 'ledgers' report:

...which results in something like this...

Absolutely perfect. Of all the little bugs I grumble about this is the one big thing I miss - the transaction report currently available makes really difficult reading.

Have to agree - this is silly, if I'm on a TB or a P&L or Balance sheet and click on a number, I expect to see a screen or report showing me that number.

What's worse though and, for me equally annoying, is that when looking at a balance sheet account on screen with it's nice b/fwd & c/fwd balances, if you chose to export to CSV, the balances vanish.

Latha, there have been numerous requests for improvements to these reports with the biggest being for CB to replicate standard "activity" reports, "General Ledger" reports or, as Kevin sets out, "Ledgers" Reports. In other words, what I trained on and produced by hand 40 years ago, a Nominal Ledger. Either the Export>General Ledger>CSV or the "Transactions All>CSV" should be this, but they are not.
