backup confusion

Every time I restore from a backup, Clearbooks creates a new restore point that i didn't ask for.

This makes it confusing because if I already have 4 restore points, the new one that it creates makes that 5 and so won't allow me to get the backup I want unless I delete one of the others.

So how do I stp it creating these unwnated backups.

Suggestion: it would be really useful if you could give backups a meaningful name (e.g. before import from bank account XYZ) rather than just giving them a timestamp.

I have just replied to your linked thread.

This issue was caused by our server move and is in our roadmap to be fixed by the end of the year. In the meantime, if you need a backup restored you will need to get in touch with us and we should be able to help, provided the backup is less than 30 days old.

Otherwise, we recommend exporting your data every so often in order to keep all information correct.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Pete - it is very confusing although having a backup before the restore is activated is a good idea, ie to protect against you accidentally using the wrong restore.

I'd prefer an option to this "do you need a pre-restore backup?" and,yes a meaningful name.

In case support doesn't spot this post I'll send it in to them.

I have added these to the development list and will update you as soon as there is any progress on them in future.

Is the restore feature something you use quite regularly - do you use it when things go wrong or for any other specific reason?

I use it probably once a week when I import my bank statements and especially when there is something complex. Dealing with VAT MOSS and Paypal is something that often can go wrong. Or when there is one payment that covers more than one invoice - stuff like that. Bear in mind I'm not not a trained bookkeeper or accountant, so sometimes there is a bit of trial and error.

When there are errors I prefer to start over from the previous safe point as opposed to voiding invoices etc.

Ok, I have now realised much of the confusion is probably due to the fact that although Clearbooks made me think I was restoring, it wasn't actually restoring

This has caused me quite a lot of frustration and wasted time because there is nothing to tell you that backups no longer work, even though restore points get created and emails with backup database get sent telling you that you have a backup, when in fact the restore does nothing.

So please can you explain what is going on with this?
