Accountants Working Papers

Question asked by Louise Spiring 8 years ago

Hi there I notice your ideas page is on hold but I wanted to put this to you as an Accountant who has used Clear Books for many years now and still find it the best functionally and intuitively for our clients.

We are moving to a paperless environment and one of the areas we need to address is the vast amount of paper we generate by printing from our clients bookkeeping systems to be sure we have frozen this info at the time and for a permanent audit trail should HMRC show up.

I have been experimenting with CSV downloads to replace this but a series of files is cumbersome and will not give us the efficiency we need.

I wondered if the Management Reporting function could be enhanced/adapted so we accountants could download a selection of reports in excel formats in one workbook?

Just a suggestion, I know MTD is a priority but I also think that strategically this could make a difference to your business.

With thanks Carole.

Hi Louise - the problem here is that no one report or set of reports will ever satisfy all firms of accountants.

In my own case we started going paperless in 2007 and were pretty much 90% there in a couple of years but, ironically, what made a huge difference was moving clients to the Cloud in that their books are far more safe & secure in state of the art IT centres than they were on the client's or or PC and meaning that there is now far less need for the traditional paper (or Excel) dump each year.

Having said that I still take a periodic transactions report CSV. I find this better than the general ledger export as it has a column for posting type and so you can pretty much replicate any set of transactions you want, be they sales invoices, purchase bills, bank payments. receipts and transfers.

My own gripe is at the loss of the Export>Backup feature that was pretty much unique to CB in that all you really need to do is have that run automatically each week to keep a full system backup outside the books. Fingers crossed it will be reinstated at the end of 2017.

Sorry Carole!
