Safety backups

Question asked by Pete 8 years ago

I'm aware that you can download a backup of your Clearbooks database, however I'm concerned about what happens in the (hopefully never going to happen) case that Clearbooks closes down, loses the data (e.g being hacked).

Can database be read from the downloaded database by any other software, or imported into other software?

If not can someone recommend the best safety procedure, e.g. should we do monthly CSV export each type of data (customers, suppliers, sales ledger etc...)? It is quite time-consuming or is there a way to export the whole lot at once

Hi Pete,

Clear Books is hosted in top grade hosting facilities that employ robust physical security controls including professional security staff, video surveillance, two-factor authentication for authorised staff access, with all physical access routinely logged and audited. Therefore, would be extremely unlikely to be hacked.

Also, no, the downloaded file cannot be read on other software as they are fully encrypted. For your personal assurance, you can export a CSV file for each data type and preferred period. It is entirely up to you how often you would like to perform an export. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to export all data types at once, you would have to do this manually one by one.

Thanks,

Tommy
