Gocardless

Does the Gocardless payment system work satisfactorily? Seem to recall that one cannot take 'customer not present' sales. What are the costs, and speed of payment to our account?

Hi Rob,
Yes, our GoCardless integration does work satisfactorily as a method to collect money of customers for any outstanding invoices. Could you clarify on 'customer not present' sales please? Also, the GoCardless payment process will take between 5-7 days. When payment is received Clear Books will automatically mark the invoice as paid and will generate a paid bill for the GoCardless fee. Every payment that goes via GoCardless incurs a GC fee which is 1% of the payment capped at £2.
Thanks,
Tommy
Hi Rob - I think you are confusing debit/credit card payment systems with this which, as the name suggests, is not a card payment system.
It's a direct debit bank system, ie the client authorises you to take payments directly from their bank account.
The integration is fine for one off invoices/payments but where you send an invoice and ask for regular payments to pay it off, you can not use the CB integration but can set the payments up via your Gocardless system. In this case, as the money hits your bank account 5-7 days later you have to manually enter the charges and pay off the invoices. These days I do this monthly rather than per transaction.
Hi Rob,
With GoCardless, you are able to request one-off payments or using the pre-authorisation method where the customer would have to agree to this by following the link in the email they receive. The pre-auth limit currently defaults to £5,000 per month and will renew monthly, which cannot be changed. There are no additional costs apart from the GoCardless fee.
Please see our support guides for further clarity:
I hope this has been helpful!
Tommy
And are there any set-up costs or monthly fees apart from the 1% ? Rob
Some c/c companies will not process payments over the phone (customer not present!), but his sounds not a problem. We may have 10 card sales a month, ranging from £10.00 to £3000 or so. Is there an upper limit?
