Emergency tax

I have taken on a new employee without a P45 so I don't know her tax code or her previous earnings. When I enter 1257X or other emergency tax code, CB asks for a valid tax code. What do I do?

Correction. The tax code is 1257L.

Hi Sue,

X is shorthand for week 1 month 1. You will simply need to enter 1257 and then tick W1M1.
