Tax high after p45 info filled in

Question asked by Hannah McCoy 2 years ago

Hello

We are using the payroll system, we have a new employee on £11.50 per hour working 28hr a week appro

The first months pay Gross pay: £1,109.75 PAYE: £0

The second months pay Gross pay: £ 1,362.75 PAYE: £285

For the second month pay, before we process it, we updated their “ Total previous pay (from p45)” which was £7140.52” which appears to be what has caused this high PAYE

Can anyone shed any light on this? According to hmrc wage tax calculator their tax should be minimum since they are low wage
