How can I find a customer?

Does anyone know of a quick way to find a customer please?

I currently have to wade through to find the surname as they are all set up as Mr, Mrs or Mr & Mrs. Ideally I would like to have customers listed in surname order, for example Dixon J, rather than Mr J Dixon or be able to search for a surname - is there any way of doing that without the details appearing on the invoice as Dixon J?
