Landords - MTD ITSA

Question asked by ELIZABETH TAUSSIG 4 months ago

I just watched your YouTube video on this and the pilot trial this year leading up to adoption in 2026.

You mention that once in MTD one is no longer in SA.

If I register for MTD now (Aug 25) to get familiar, and not necessarily send the quarterly returns, will I be able to submit the usual SA for 25/26, and then commence MTD for real in April 26?

Hi Elizabeth,

When signing up for MTD with HMRC, you can choose which year to start in MTD.

Once signed up, you can then connect Clear Books with HMRC and get familiar now. You do not need submit quarterly updates, and file your the usual SA for 25/26. Then, you'll be fully ready for MTD in the 26/27 year.

Hi Richard,

Unfortunately, we are unable to amend the MTD start date, however, you could contact HMRC to see if they'd be able to do it. Please note, by doing so you would need to submit your tax return via MTD this year, there's no option to just see the calculations without having obligations to submit.

Also, the HMRC helpline number will show up once you have successfully connected your HMRC account, then you can click on the ? at the top right to view this.

Also, in your video the man from HMRC said they had a telephone helpline for those registered for MTD which was more easily accessible and had more operators than their other lines.

Do you know the number?

Thanks Tommy, so would it be possible to amend the start date in HMRC to this year so I can see the MTD calcs?

Hi Elizabeth,

Unfortunately, to avoid confusion, the system will not show obligation periods and submission amounts that users' do not need to, and cannot submit, it will only show your actual HMRC submission obligations. For an example, you can view our demo video here.

I successfully set up my MTD account with HMRC and linked it to Clearbooks, no problems.

Because I don't wish to start MTD until April 26 I entered that as my commencement date.

My Clearbooks MTD area is showing "No tax years available......"

I was hoping to see how the MTD calculation page looked to play around with it, but nor submit, this year anyway.

Can I achieve this?
