Backdating my bank details

Question asked by Stephen Varney 7 days ago

How can I set my bank details to run from 6/4/25 instead of when I first signed into Clearbooks? I had already sent in my 24/25 accounts to HMRC but when I signed into the trial period it seemed to discount what I had already entered and now shows on HMRC site as owing nothing at the end of Jan which I know is wrong, but I don't know where to go from here. I guess I'd better just send them the amount that I think for now to sort out later rather than end up with a large bill later on?

Hi Stephen,

I have taken a look and can see you have not submitted any quarterly updates from Clear Books so what is showing on your HMRC account has nothing to do with Clear Books. Being signed up for MTD for Income Tax with HMRC, and not sending any quarterly updates will mean HMRC do not generate a tax estimate during the year.

If you submit a quarterly update, then HMRC will generate a tax estimate for the 25/26 tax year which you can see in your Clear Books account and the same estimate will be viewable in your HMRC account. But the tax estimate that can be seen in MTD software, will not necessarily take account of prior year tax owed.

Also, can I confirm that you are looking to backdate your bank statement imports from 06/04/25? If so, you must head to Dashboard > Bank accounts > Manage bank feeds > Click Unlink. Then, click Link to an Account. You will then be able to specify the start date of 06/04/25.
