Can't get an expense into the Total Expenses

Question asked by Mrs Helen Savage 4 days ago

I have tried lots of different ways of getting a paid bill for £1,080 into the Total Expenses. I have loaded the bill by sending it to email, or loading it by 'record expenses' and I make sure when loading it to assign to 'repairs and maintenance'. It logs it in Expenses, but then doesn't add it to the Total Expenses for MTD. What am I doing wrong? I make sure to check toggle the 'record payment' on.

Hi Helen,

The date on the bill is 13/10/26 which falls outside of the Q2 expense total. Instead, it will be included in the Q3 update.

Hi Helen,

Today's date will fall outside of Q2 and therefore, will only show in the Total Expense for Q3.

Sure but if I enter something with today's date, it's not showing on the Total Expenses for MTD just the Expenses. Is that because it's not in the 2nd quarter now?

Hi Helen,

The date you enter the transactions does not determine the quarter it goes into. As per HMRC rules, the quarterly return includes anything with a payment date during the period start and end dates if using cash basis, or anything invoiced during the period start and end dates if using traditional accruals basis.

do I have to submit Q2 before I can enter stuff for Q3

Thanks but why does that matter, i've entered other things post Q2 and they've been entered into Total Expenses for MTD?
