What is the point of the Cash Flow Foecast Tool?

Question asked by Tom Trainer 11 years ago

It looks much easier to produce a cash flow forecast in Excel than using the Clear Books cash flow forecast tool. Have I misunderstood something?

I understand exactly what you mean Tom. Nope, I don't think you have missed anything either. The main difference is that it collates and gathers together all the data for you. But, your idea of a tool which actually creates forecasts based on certain criteria is interesting and, so, perhaps you would like to add it into the ideas section on Community.

Hi Chris,

From your answer, I assume that I have not missed something.

I must say I am surprised that CB would try to cater for people who do not have access to Excel. Who does not have access to Excel these days? It actually makes it look like CB provides a cash-flow forecasting tool when really it does not. I find that quite a misleading claim. If it allowed you to specify percentage or regular increases/decreases on actuals, then I would consider it to be a tool; currently it is not. The reason it is so easy to set up appears to be that it doesn't do anything.

The video is not about the cash-flow forecasting "tool"; it is a beginners guide to cash-flow forecasting for people who do not know what a cash-flow forecast is. You couldn't really do a video about the current "tool" as there wouldn't be anything to say.

Does it do anything that the cash-flow report or the P&L report wouldn't do for you, apart form leave spaces?

No, not really. It is just a standalone report at the moment. Hopefully we will be developing this as time goes on.
