Bank reconciliation: show balance if all unreconciled transactions were marked as reconciled

When reconciling the bank statement, there is a list of unreconciled items but this is not totalled (as far as I can see).
We can see the reconciliation difference.
But the only way to see if ticking all the unreconciled items will bring the balances into line is to try it and see.
And then it's too late and we have to reconcile manually.
