Has anyone else transferred from Zoho Books to ClearBooks?

Question asked by Andy Miller 10 years ago

Its a long shot I know but you know what they say about reinventing the wheel.

My first quick attempts at importing data into ClearBooks have shown the limitations of clearbooks import facilities and I can see a MASSIVE amount of conversion to the Zoho export files before the data will be accepted and a loss of information even then.

So I just wondered if anyone had already done any of this before?

Hi Andy,

Feel free to send in the files to supportATclearbooks.co.uk so we can investigate the cause of the problem too!

Paul & Kevin, Thanks for coming back so quickly. My attempts so far have been 1) to import contacts. This did not result in any error messages or in success. We're B2B and I'm sure this is manageable and can be overcome I'd tried it first because i thought it would be a quick win :-(. I notice the extent of info its possible to import is somewhat limited but I dont see this as a big problem.

2)Purchase invoices. Aside for the foreign currency issue previously discussed I took a batch of invoices and tried to import. The display where you map from showed some strange formatting of some early invoices. That aside - it picked up problems apparently in groups - e.g. it ran down to something like a 1,000 then said there was a problem with next 30 invoices and then another gap then another problem with a batch of invoices. This makes me wonder whether there are characters / lengths of fields or something that is throwing the import.

These CSV files I am trying to import are ones I have used for other purposes and have not caused a problem when importing into either Excel or Google Sheets .

Kevin, whilst I dont rule out giving up and not importing the data it would be messy for us a company because we would lose the benefits of easy to access management information across the years. One of the reasons for leaving Zoho was because of the lack of MI and the need to be constantly messing about dumping stuff into spreadsheets. To be honest if I cant make progress with the importing then I would be tempted to try out the cloud based accounts system I rated second from desk research and see if it does better before going down the route of not bothering. At this point I'm just trialing ClearBooks

Now I'm not saying that I've given up and the importing is impossible! I probably have not spent 3 hours on the task so far Simply that given its not a "walk in the park" was why I was reaching out on the off chance anyone else had already done it and I could piggy back on their labour.

I see the next steps being to create some smaller test files for importing and see what I can figure out.

Hi Andy

Would it not be easier to import the TB along with any aged position, then simply keep an external copy of anything historic as a point of reference?

Hi Andy - other than the foreign currency issue (other thread) are there any other problems you've found with importing?

Cheers Paul

PS: Sorry, no I haven't had to export/Import from/to Zoho
