Delete paypal account

Question asked by Karen Moss 7 years ago

Hi I have added my paypal account but would like to start again as the imports have imported incorrectly and it is too complicated to go back through and figure out which payments have not been repeated.

Can I delete the paypal account from my bank accounts?

Thanks Karen

Hi Karen,

Unfortunately, now that you have transactions associated with the account you would not be able to delete it.

It is possible to archive the account, but before doing this I would recommend removing all connected transaction with the account as they would remain with the account even after the archive and could warp the books.

To start this process go to the statement that you have imported for PayPal, expand the results per page which will make this process a little easier and start going into each transaction that has been explained (by clicking on the magnifying glass) and the void the bills.

Once this has been completed the account balance should be 0. At this point select the Edit (Pencil) next to the PayPal account in the Money > Bank accounts screen. On the Detail tab within the Bank account near the bottom of the screen, you should see the option to archive the account. (Archiving the account will remove the account from view in the system, also removing it from any lists and menus).

I would also recommend deleting the both imported statements to full restart the process, as when the new PayPal is created new imports will also be generated.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Theo I will try this Karen

Hi Theo, I have tried deleting some of the transactions linked to bills but they have already been allocated to a vat return. Is there a way around this. Having the paypal account on here is confusing and it doesn't import well. Thank you

Hi Karen,

I have taken a look at your account. Just to reinforce what Theo mentioned, you would have to delete the transactions that you can on the PayPal imported statement by deleting the payments and the bills, then voiding the transactions on the imported statement.

For the transactions included on a VAT return. They cannot be deleted and will have to be reversed. To reverse a bill/ invoice, go to the relevant bill/ invoice, click Copy, then change the gross amount to a negative value (-) and click Save. Once this is done, quick pay the newly created invoice/ bill; this would then cancel out the original. Both the reverse invoice and the corrected invoice will need to be included in a future VAT return.

After this, you can then reimport the transactions correctly.

Thanks,

Tommy
