Email templates

Question asked by Merwan Shelala 3 years ago

Hello team,

I can see you have updated the email templates for invoices, reminders, statements, etc.

However, is it possible to:

1 - Customise the HTML of the new look email?

OR

2 - Keep using the plain text email template we were using before the updates?

Hi Merwan,

1 - I am afraid this is not currently possible. Which parts of the HTML would you be interested in customizing and I can pass the feedback on?

2 - I am afraid not. This is not possible.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Just backing up everything said here. It's really unacceptable to bring in a change like this without any warning.

As Merwan makes clear, and for us this really is a step backwards. We also would prefer a simple, clean email to be sent with invoices in. They are more likely to be read, quicker to do so, and render better on a variety of displays and devices. The emails now look more like a marketing email.

By way of comparison, they are similar to the free / cheap accounting / invoicing products available. Mostly the invoices we get from larger suppliers are very simple / plain text. For those processing them we've been told this is always better.

Could we get some feedback on what might happen? I've seen often threads like this finish with a similar statement and then don't go any further.

Do you have any further update on this matter or are you expecting people to settle with what you have done?

Please let me know as this is a make or break for us.

Hi Mohamed,

Thanks for your response. I'm glad to hear you're taking concerns on board. However, this does need to be followed up with more than 'things are being considered'.

As a suggestion - which would be simple to programme - could there be a toggle for including the either the new HTML email wrapper, or not? Or even better simply allow this wrapper to be edited - that would solve all the problems, while at the same time offer better functionality.

thanks,

Hi Merwan,

Just a heads up we have rolled out a change to help to deal with the HTML issues so that such tags do not need to be stripped out anymore. I hope this helps.

All the best,

Mohamed.

How do we hide Qty and Unit price from the online version of the invoice — not only the pdf template?

And here is a sample cleaner looking email template.

Hope this helps?

Minor tweaks but big overall improvement and more professional looking!

Hi Merwan,

I understand your frustration. Please rest assured that your feedback has been passed on and is being considered for further improvements to the system. Regarding your suggestion on the button, I have now passed that on as further feedback also.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Is it possible to make the button in the online invoice stand out and clearly labeled DOWNLOAD AS PDF?

Clients are missing it!

Hi Nick,

That is certainly a good suggestion I would say and I can certainly pass that onto our product team as a suggestion.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Hi Merwan,

I do understand your frustration and I have forwarded all your feedback to our product team who are actively going through all the feedback to make improvements. Unfortunately, I can't confirm what changes this would lead to nor give an ETA, but please do remain assured we are aware of the feedback and working through it.

All the best,

Mohamed.

We've been your client for over 10 years and this is really not on now...

Since the updates, we have been downloading our invoices as PDF and sending them manually to our clients — We cannot keep doing this forever though!

1 - Please sort out the cheap-looking email template or give us the option to send plain text emails.

2 - And also update the styling of the online invoice.

Thank you!

Hi Nick,

I understand your concerns. We are actively taking feedback about the recent changes and these are all being considered by the product team so that it can better inform any changes we make to this. What those changes may be, I wouldn't be able to tell you. But please do continue to provide feedback, it is helpful in informing the changes we make and roll out.

All the best,

Mohamed.

Hi Merwan,

Thank you for the feedback, I will pass this on.

All the best,

Mohamed.

An example of the contact details which did not use to show to the end user before the updates:

Here is an example of the formatting issue:

Thank you, Mohamed.

Basically we'd prefer the email template to be minimal without our logo graphic, the blue strips in the header/footer with Clearbooks in the bottom as if we are using a freebie accounting software.

I understand you need to promote yourselves but this makes us less professional (invoices coming from your competitors emails do not carry any marketing as such).

On the other hand, viewing the invoice in the browser is now exposing the client's contact details which we do not wish to have there. These details have never been visible to clients before and we have notes into these fields which we are forced to go in and clean them all now.

In the item descriptions of our recurring invoices, we use basic HTML formatting for bold and italic which displays nicely in the PDF invoice. Now this formatting does not work in the online invoice view and we have to go in and edit every single recurring invoice.

You have made an improvement to your platform without giving it much thoughts from what I can see...
